I was born in Caldes de Malavella (Catalonia, Spain) in 1965, and got BSc (1989), MSc (1991), and PhD (1996) degrees in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona - UAB). I have been Associate Professor since 1992 (1992-1997 for technical studies) at the Department of Information and Communications Engineering (dEIC) (UAB). From January 2012 I am also the head of our department. In April 2014 I was accredited as Professor by the Spanish Ministry of Science.
BTW, Joan is a male Catalan name, pronounced 'Jewan' in English, in Chinese.
From September 2009 to July 2010, I was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science (MEC) to visit the Security Group, directed by Simon N. Foley, and the Mobile & Internet Systems Laboratory, directed by Cormac J. Sreenan, at the Computer Science Department of UCC, Cork, Ireland.
My present research interest is focused on security of delay-tolerant distributed
In the past, I had been working on cryptographic schemes for electronic voting and electronic gambling, and on mobility and security of software agents.
You can get a list of my publications and research activity either from Arnetminer or from dEIC. See also the page of SeNDA, our research group.
As part of my teaching activities, I have also co-authored a number of papers
(most of them in Catalan or Spanish) about the use
of Wiki websites to promote
collaborative working among students.
You can get a list of these papers here, selecting "Borrell" as Author, and "Wiki" as Title. I am also a member of the UAB's GIIDES-Wiki group on Higher Education Innovation.
